Good Morning, my name is Mrs. Ritter. In celebration of Women’s History Month, Winslow student government and Eagles Landing recognizes the following woman of distinction
Maria Elena Salinas, legendary journalist, advocate and philanthropist
- Salinas, born in 1954, has more than 30 years of news reporting experience, making her the longest-running female news anchor on U.S. television.
- Over the course of her career, Salina has interviewed prominent Latin American heads of state, rebel leaders, dictators, and every US president since Jimmy Carter.
- Her expertise was called upon during the 2020 election in which she broke down the unique needs and concerns of Latino communities nationwide. These communities were long held as a single voting block.
- In an effort to support the next generation of aspiring reporters, Salinas sponsors the Maria Elena Salinas Scholarship for college students interested in Spanish news broadcasting
