Good Morning, this is Mrs. Ritter & [Jacel Brown], and in celebration of Women’s History Month, Winslow student government and Eagles Landing recognize the following woman of distinction:
- Born in 1982, Misty Copeland is a renowned American ballet dancer widely recognized for her groundbreaking achievements in classical ballet.
- Ms. Copeland made history in 2015 as the first African American woman to be promoted to principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world.
- Copeland’s rise to prominence is especially remarkable given her late start in ballet, starting her training at age 13, which is considered late by professional standards. She has since become a symbol of diversity and resilience in ballet, breaking barriers and inspiring future generations of dancers.
Misty Copeland is a world-renowned ballet dancer and barrier breaker.
