The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing, and the pollen is everywhere and on everything. Spring is here and that means we can all finally start packing away those heavy coats and put on our shorts and go outside and play some basketball.
But, this also means that the dreaded spring cleaning has arrived, every teens nightmare. Spring cleaning can feel like a big chore, taking either one day for quick workers or it can span across a few weeks. Either way, most families do it and it might feel like a lot but if you take a few of these tips, you will be sure to get it done soon and your home will look even more beautiful and sparkly than before!
Tip 1: We all love to listen to music while we work. Make a playlist before you even start cleaning and use a speaker instead of your phone close to you. Picking up your phone repeatedly to get songs ready for play next will start to get distracting and eventually you might find yourself scrolling on TikTok laying in bed instead of picking up that pile of clothes in the corner. So put your phone in a different room while you clean so the possibility of a disruption isn’t even there.
Tip 2: Make three piles of keep, maybe, and donation or trash. Before you start cleaning and you pull everything out, this helps you see everything clearer and you can make your pick from there. After you separate the items, you can get rid of the trash and what you have left from the maybe pile and put them all together again and do this process again until you feel satisfied that you don’t have any left over objects like two year old birthday cards.
Tip 3: After you’re done decluttering this, clean top from bottom. Dust ceiling fans, lights, high shelves, before you make your way down and dust window seals or corners of the floor. This’ll get all the dust down and out in the open so it’ll make it easier to vacuum everything up in one go.
Tip 4: Go room by room and go at your own pace. You don’t have to feel pressured to finish it all in one go, you most likely won’t and it’ll be stressful for yourself to meet that goal. Start in bedrooms and work your way out into the open but also remember to take at least a 30 minute break after at least cleaning three rooms before starting up again. Don’t burn yourself out on day one.
And finally, Tip 5: Make a list of which rooms you want to be cleaned by the days of the week and before doing final check. Check all the rooms for missed spots, ensure all the trash or unwanted items have been thrown out or donated and confirm with one last sweep over that all the appliances and fixtures are in their original places.
With this you are sure to have a quick and easy spring cleaning week!
