– Turn it into a planter! Just fill it up with some soil, cut some holes on the bottom for better drainage (optional), and finally put a seed of your choice in the dirt. Don’t forget to water the plant and give it the right amount of sunlight all depending on the type of plant you chose.
- Have any loose coins? Turn it into a piggy bank! Using scissors or a knife cut a slit into the side of the bottle, enough to fit a coin and then decorate the bottle how you’d like!
- Turn it into a bird feeder! Cut a hole near the bottom of the bottle, large enough for the birds to be able to reach the seeds, and also some drainage holes on the bottom to keep the seed from being soaked if it happens to rain. Tie some string or twine around the top and after filling it with bird seed you can hang it anywhere!
- Now here is something pretty easy, an ice pack! If you do not have any ice packs at home just fill the bottle up with water, freeze it and now you have an ice pack.
- Make it into a watering can for plants! Simply poke holes in the cap with something thin like a thumb tack, then fill the bottle with water and that’s all you need to do.
- Storage containers! If you have run out of containers to use, just reuse a plastic water bottle. It’s perfect for storing things such as beads, screws, nails, etc. Even other things that you may use in cooking (ex: sugar), just make sure to wash the bottle thoroughly before using if you decide to!
- Similar to #6 you could use it as a container but more specifically, a pen holder. Though you could store pencils, crayons, paint brushes, etc. Just cut off the top carefully with scissors and now you have a cup holder!
- Did you happen to just get a bouquet of flowers and have nowhere to put them? Turn it into a vase! Take the lid off of the bottle, fill it up with water and now you have a vase!
Of course there are many other ways you could reuse a plastic bottle, these are just a few of the many options you could use. Even if you decide you don’t want to reuse the bottle, always make sure to put it into the recycling bin and don’t litter! Do your part. Over 35 billion plastic bottles are estimated to be discarded every year in the U.S alone, only about 12% ends up being recycled. And plastic takes from 20 to 500 years to decompose.
