On December 18, 2024, students who took three or more years of Spanish and maintained at least a B throughout those three years were inducted into the Spanish Honor Society and commemorated for their long and hard work in learning the Spanish language. This day was their celebration of language, culture, dedication, and, most importantly, community. This chapter of SHS was the Remdios Varo chapter and the main principle was inclusivity. The new inductees chose the color silver for their class color and Peru for their country. Silver represents elegance and resilience, and in the context of SHS, “silver can symbolize the shining light of knowledge.” Congratulations to all new inductees.
Spanish Honor Society is a national organization that focuses on the rich and vibrant Hispanic culture, language, and traditions; which strive to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation towards the society. To be involved in such a society is a great honor because it allows the students to be able to connect and learn with and from other members while still learning the language. SHS gives the students opportunities to communicate with others using everyday Spanish, outside of what they learn in class. Being in this association is also a great responsibility because each student has to uphold the integrity and important aspects of the organization.
