The Art Smith era is definitely something that has been interesting so far for the Winslow Township Eagles Basketball team. Smith is 6-5 in his first eleven as the new Winslow head coach, which is a drastic improvement from last year, as the eagles were 2-9 in their first eleven. This Eagles team looks special with certain key impact players like leading scorer Nyquir Helton, who already has thirteen steals and fourteen assists on the season. Another key player for the team is Jayden Driver, who has the second most points and leads the team with sixteen three-pointers. Multi-sport athlete Marcus Upton, who is committed to play football at Boston College next year, has twenty-three assists in just six games on the team as well. Winslow is 1-2 in their conference (olympic) so far with a 47-43 win against Moorestown. In Winslow’s latest game, they beat their crosstown rival CCTS in dominating fashion 98-60 to pick up their sixth win of the season. Winslow’s season so far has had ups and downs as they lost to an outrageously good Camden High team 76-38, and had a crushing conference loss to Cherry Hill West 42-39. Despite this, this team has shown resilience even with a few tough losses. If they can keep being competitive and secure the games they’re able to win, we could be seeing our Eagles in the playoffs for the first time in three years.
