After a tough 0-3 start to the season with losses against Timber Creek (1-3), Moorestown (0-4), and Gateway in a tight 0-1 game, the Winslow Boys Soccer team is rolling. The Eagles have now won three straight, defeating St. Joe’s Hammonton, rival CCTS, and Highland.
The team started off cold but has heated up over the last three games, outscoring opponents 10-2.
Winslow’s first win came against St. Joe’s Hammonton. After a scoreless first half, the Eagles broke through with second-half goals from freshman Angel Mejia, senior Derek Whittock, and sophomore Christopher Jovel, who netted two. Winslow secured the 4-0 victory.
Next came a rivalry matchup with CCTS. The game was a nail-biter, going into double overtime tied 2-2, with goals from Whittock and Mejia. Center back Badyn Hernandez sealed the win with a clutch free kick, giving Winslow a dramatic 3-2 victory.
Yesterday, the Eagles earned their third straight win, shutting out Highland. Senior Kobi Owusu, sophomore Christopher Jovel, and senior Derek Whittock all scored, with Owusu also adding an assist. Final score: 3-0.
After a slow start, Winslow has completely turned things around and now looks to extend its streak to four against conference opponent Camden Catholic.
