The Winslow Township Eagles defeated the Millville Thunderbolts 53-14 on Saturday afternoon to capture their 3rd straight sectional championship. This was a very anticipated game as Winslow played Millville last year in the state semifinal with Winslow taking the victory in a close one. With this being the teams 4th meeting in two years told you all you had to know about these two teams and the game.
Winslow’s offense dominated in this matchup with Junior Quarterback Jalen Parker having 274 passing yards with five total touchdowns four passing and one rushing showing why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the state of New Jersey. Parker made sure everybody on the offense got involved as every starting receiver got in the endzone (Qauyd Hendryx, Nyquir Helton, TJ Maddox) with Nyquir Helton leading the way with two receiving touchdowns on the day to break the Winslow Township High School receiving touchdown record with 16 putting him in the record books with a historical season. Congrats to the North Carolina Tar Heel commit.
Nakeem Powell continued his rushing success as he bouldered his way to 124 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Winslow’s offense simply scored at will against the Thunderbolts after the first half, scoring 35 unanswered points. Millville did put up a fight with two back to back touchdowns. A 71 yard touchdown by Reggie Hollie gave them hope and showed that they weren’t afraid to pass on the Eagles defense, something that teams really haven’t done much all season.
After a shaky two defensive drives sophomore Benjamin Carter busted through the middle of Millville’s o-line to get to quarterback Robert O Connor to tip his pass and take it to the house for a pick six, this moment really shifted the momentum and after that Winslow’s defense was lockdown allowing 0 points in the second half with another pick six by senior Karon Ali where he ran up the sideline for 6. The Eagles have proved why they are one of the best teams in the state winning three straight sectional titles, but this isn’t the end, their hunt for another state championship continues this week against The Brick Memorial Mustangs.
